OUR search for the men and women who make life better for everyone in Glasgow is hotting up - and we want to hear about the local champions making a difference in your area.

Today we launch our campaign to uncover the neighbourhood champs striving to make a difference in Greater Govan and Craigton.

The Evening Times wants to find champions of the south-west areas living and working in Ibrox, Tradeston, Govan, Bellahouston, Craigton, Mosspark, Cardonald, Penilee, Crookston, Corkerhill, Drumoyne and Hillington.

The deadline for entries is March 10.

We want to know about the area's outstanding organisations, inspiring young people and remarkable public service teams.

Last year, we received more than 50 nominations from this area alone, telling us about the people you think worthy of awards.

Lord Provost Bob Winter said: "The Community Champion awards are about rewarding those who put something of themselves into their local area. By doing so, they make their community a better place, and encourage others to contribute as active citizens and good neighbours."

The Glasgow Community Champion Awards - a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership and the Evening Times - is scouring the city to turn the spotlight on unsung heroes.

The second series of the awards has already turned the spotlight on people living or working in four areas of Glasgow.

So far, we have heard stories about school pupils committed to doing more for their community, concierge staff replica balenciaga handbags giving tenants a boost, and a great-grandmother who spends her time befriending housebound clients in her area.

The awards will visit 10 areas, hosting a community awards ceremony in each.

These events are free to attend, so everyone is welcome to the Greater Govan and Craigton awards on March 25 at Penilee Community Centre.

Refreshments and sandwiches will be served and readers can chat to representatives from the awards partners.

All 60 winners from each of the 10 areas will be invited to a gala final at the City Chambers in September, where the overall Community Champions will be crowned.

You can apply online or download a Glasgow Community Champions Awards entry form from by following the link from the 'communities' section.

Alternatively, call 0141 302 7319 for an entry form.

You can request a form by post by writing to: Glasgow Community Champion Awards, Evening Times, 200 Renfield Street, Glasgow, G2 3QB.

Forms will also be available from local police and fire stations, council offices and libraries.

Nominations must be in by 5pm on March 10.

Nominations received for outside the Greater Govan and Craigton area will be kept on file until the relevant month.
