A TEENAGER brandishing a toy gun held up two women in the space of an hour today.
Police are hunting the youth who struck twice in the Leith area but escaped empty-handed both times.
The first attack saw a home help refuse to give up her handbag after the Asian teenager presented the gun and demanded her handbag just off Easter Road at around 10.30am.
Less than an hour later, a woman was approached by what appears to be the same attacker on Dryden Street, Pilrig. He again brandished the toy gun and demanded her handbag.
A police spokesman said: "We believe both incidents this morning are linked given the similar descriptions of the suspect given by both victims and also the nature of what happened in both.

Police are also investigating links to a robbery in Pilrig earlier this week by a youth matching the description of today's attacker.
The first attack took place in a lane between Edina Place and Norton Park and the suspect ran off in the direction of Easter Road following the failed robbery.

Ben Borland, 31, of Edina Place, said: "I was taking my daughter to nursery when a man and a woman came out of the ginnel at the end of my street. They were from a nearby sheltered housing development and asked if I had seen a young Asian boy running past. The woman seemed pretty shaken up. She said he had pulled an imitation gun on her and asked for her handbag. She said she had told him to get lost, or words to that effect, and then he ran off.

"It is a scary thing to happen, especially in broad daylight."
A second attack took place in Dryden Street at around 11.20am. The attacker again demanded the handbag from his female victim but left empty handed.
The suspect in both robberies is described as 14 to 15, 5ft 4in, slim, wearing a grey/green parka with fur around the hook and dark trousers.
A police spokesman said it was not known what type of toy gun the teenager had.
He added: "We are looking to see if there is any connection with a similar robbery in Pilrig earlier this week where a suspect described as being an Asian youth robbed a woman."
On Monday, a 38-year-old woman was robbed on Cambridge Avenue, Pilrig, at around 5.30pm.
