SHEEP breeder Anna Simpson is putting a little femininity into farming after scooping the title Britain's Sexiest Farmer in a national competition.

The 25-year-old says she's thrilled with her new title, and says it shows that not all farmers are old men in wellies!

Anna's uncle persuaded her to enter the Farmer's Weekly contest, and she saw off competition from more than 300 contestants up and down the country.

Now she's hoping her win - pounds 250 and a deluxe pair of wellies - will make people think twice about the agricultural industry. And it could lead to more modelling work.

Anna, who farms with her parents, Tim Mulberry Bags and Jane, at a 250-acre property in Hutton Rudby, near Yarm, said: "I'm really pleased - it's such fun."

Anna's previous modelling credentials include first prize in a More magazine's sexy legs competition, and the title of Miss Newcastle in 2007.

"I wanted to do modelling but it was really hard getting to places and making it work. This brings modelling and farming together. I hope people realise that farming is about young people and we do have fun," said Anna.

Anna and big sister Jackie, 28, both entered the competition, and Jackie couldn't be happier with her sister's success. "The whole family is really pleased - I think it's a really positive thing and as much as anything else it's a bit of a giggle," she said.

Anna, who went to Stokesley School and then Bishop Burton Agricultural College, now works for Green Farm Health in Thirsk as a sales adviser.

She also helps dad Tim look after their 800 breeding sheep - and will be hard at work during the lambing season. "We've got a really busy period coming up. We turn the lights off at night in the vain hope they won't lamb, but nature doesn't work that way and we're busier than ever!", she said.

Boyfriend Shaun Butler, a local joiner, is delighted at Anna's win, and they're hoping her career will take off. Anna shares the title with Pete Mortimore, 25, a farmer from Devon, following a FW readers' vote.
